I am very hopeful for the future. Shanahan doesn't guarantee anything, but I think we are going to have a much better product to enjoy than we've had over the last 24 games. Hail to the Redskins!

Ending With a Whimper, and a Termination. Skins Lose, Zorn Out.

Hip Hip Hooray. Stay Medium. The Maroon and Black. The Zorn Era--its all over now, baby. During this era, I bought property, got engaged, got married, went on my honeymoon. In football terms, the Zorn era gave us the euphoria of September and October 2008. If we beat the Eagles, I told Joey in October of 2008, we are Super Bowl contenders. We did beat Philly a few days later. And then a week later we lost to the St. Louis Rams.
Zorn seemed to be a really nice man who should have been a coordinator before being a head coach. He treated the media like they deserved the most robust explanations for his bad decisions. But as unnamed Redskins players explained to Washington Post, and just as I suspected, the Redskins were never able to achieve success in critical game situations because they never practiced them. Let me repeat--never practiced them.
As nice as Jim Zorn is, and as much as the players may have cared for him, this is all I need to know about the Zorn era.
Yesterday, the Skins lost to San Diego 23-20. The Chargers' starters came out and found their rhythm before Norv benched them. It was 13-0 when the Skins got going. Campbell led a nice drive of about 67 yards by spreading the ball around to Kelly, Moss, and Cartwright despite throwing a bunch of really high balls and making Moss fully extend for an acrobatic catch. On third and short, he found a wide open Yoder for the score.
The Skins scored again on the next drive to take the lead, thanks to a beautiful throw to Kelly in the slot on a seem route, followed by a run down to the four yard line. An 84 yard pass play--the longest of the year.
Campbell then rolled out and hit Sellers for a wide open td.
Those were the exciting fun plays. There was also: two dropped interceptions, one that would have sealed a victory, and a false start penalty that forced the Skins to kick a field goal when they were up by 1 late in the 4th quarter instead of getting a potential game sealing touchdown on fourth and short. Situational football, my friends. This is why Jim Zorn is a really nice man who is no longer the Redskins coach.
So that's that. I took videos, I wrote blog entries, I took photos of a 4-12 season, not because I am an idiot, but because I love being a Redskins fan. I'm relieved the season is over--it was truly awful, and we knew it would be back in October. But it was fun. They always are.
Also, Joey's Team Awesome won her fantasy football league. Her football acumen blossomed right in front of us. She wisely picked up defenses to go against the worst offenses--Detroit and St. Louis. She stuck by Philip Rivers and Hines Ward. She overcame an injury to top rated tight end Owen Daniels. She abided by the self-imposed morality of clause of never using Cowboys, Eagles, or Giants. She picked up and played Devin Aromashadu instead of Greg Jennings with the championship on the line. Congratulations and job well done!
